Evangelium secundum Lucam

Dicebat autem et parabolam ad illos, quoniam oportet semper orare et non deficere,

And he spoke also a parable to them, that we ought always to pray and not to faint,

Dic autem et parabola ad illos, quia debe semper ora et non defice,

dicens: Judex quidam erat in quadam civitate, qui Deum non timebat, et hominem non reverebatur.

Saying: There was a judge in a certain city, who feared not God nor regarded man.

Dicente: iudice uno es in uno civitate, qui time non Deo, et homine non revereor.

Vidua autem quædam erat in civitate illa, et veniebat ad eum, dicens: Vindica me de adversario meo.

And there was a certain widow in that city; and she came to him, saying: Avenge me of my adversary.

Vidua autem uno es in civitate illa, et veni ad illo, dicente: vindica me de adversario meo.

Et nolebat per multum tempus. Post hæc autem dixit intra se: Etsi Deum non timeo, nec hominem revereor:

And he would not for a long time. But afterwards he said within himself: Although I fear not God nor regard man,

Et ne vol per multo tempore. Post hoc autem dic intra se: etsi Deo non time, nec homine revereor:

tamen quia molesta est mihi hæc vidua, vindicabo illam, ne in novissimo veniens sugillet me.

Yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will avenge her, lest continually coming she weary me.

Tamen quia molesto es ad me hoc vidua, vindica illa, ne in novissimo veniente sugilla me.

Ait autem Dominus: Audite quid judex iniquitatis dicit:

And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge saith.

Domino autem dic: audi iudice de iniquitate dic quid:

Deus autem non faciet vindictam electorum suorum clamantium ad se die ac nocte, et patientiam habebit in illis?

And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night? And will he have patience in their regard?

Deo autem non i fac vindicta elige suo clama ad se die et nocte, et patientia i habe in illos?

Dico vobis quia cito faciet vindictam illorum. Verumtamen Filius hominis veniens, putas, inveniet fidem in terra?

I say to you that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?

Dic ad vos quia cito i fac vindicta de illos. Verumtamen Filio de homine veniente, puta, inveni fide in terra?

Dixit autem et ad quosdam qui in se confidebant tamquam justi, et aspernabantur ceteros, parabolam istam:

And to some who trusted in themselves as just and despised others, he spoke also this parable:

Dic autem et ad uno qui in se confide sicut iusto, et aspernor cetero, parabola isto:

Duo homines ascenderunt in templum ut orarent: unus pharisæus et alter publicanus.

Two men went up into the temple to pray: the one a Pharisee and the other a publican.

Duo homine ascende in templo ut ora: uno pharisaeo et altero publicano.

Pharisæus stans, hæc apud se orabat: Deus, gratias ago tibi, quia non sum sicut ceteri hominum: raptores, injusti, adulteri, velut etiam hic publicanus:

The Pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, as also is this publican.

Pharisaeo stante, ora apud se hoc: deo, age gratias ad te, quia non es sicut cetero de homines: raptores, iniusta, adulteras, sicut etiam hoc publicano:

jejuno bis in sabbato, decimas do omnium quæ possideo.

I fast twice in a week: I give tithes of all that I possess.

Ieiuna bis in sabbato, decimo da de omni que posside.

Et publicanus a longe stans, nolebat nec oculos ad cælum levare: sed percutiebat pectus suum, dicens: Deus propitius esto mihi peccatori.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O God, be merciful to me a sinner.

Et publicano ab longe stante, ne vol nec oculos ad caelo leva: sed percute pectore suo, dicente: deo propitio es ad me ad peccatore.

Dico vobis, descendit hic justificatus in domum suam ab illo: quia omnis qui se exaltat, humiliabitur, et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur.

I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather than the other: because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Dic ad vos, hoc descende iustifica in domo suo ab illo: quia omni qui exalta se, humilia, et qui humilia se, exalta.

Afferebant autem ad illum et infantes, ut eos tangeret. Quod cum viderent discipuli, increpabant illos.

And they brought unto him also infants, that he might touch them. Which when the disciples saw, they rebuked them.

Et autem ad illo infantes ad-fer, ut illos tange. Quod cum discipulos vide, increpa illos.

Jesus autem convocans illos, dixit: Sinite pueros venire ad me, et nolite vetare eos: talium est enim regnum Dei.

But Jesus, calling them together, said: Suffer children to come to me and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Iesu autem convoca illos, dic: sine pueros venire ad me, et ne vol veta illos: de tale es nam regno de Deo.

Amen dico vobis, quicumque non acceperit regnum Dei sicut puer, non intrabit in illud.

Amen, I say to you: Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child shall not enter into it.

Amen dic ad vos, omni non accipe regno de Deo sicut puero, non intra in illo.

Et interrogavit eum quidam princeps, dicens: Magister bone, quid faciens vitam æternam possidebo?

And a certain ruler asked him, saying: Good master, what shall I do to possess everlasting life?

Et interroga illo uno principe, dicente: magistro bono, quid faciente vita aeterno posside?

Dixit autem ei Jesus: Quid me dicis bonum? nemo bonus nisi solus Deus.

And Jesus said to him: Why dost thou call me good? None is good but God alone.

Iesu autem ad illo dic: quid me dic bono? Nemo bono nisi solo Deo.

Mandata nosti: non occides; non mœchaberis; non furtum facies; non falsum testimonium dices; honora patrem tuum et matrem.

Thou knowest the commandments: Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness: Honour thy father and mother.

Mandatos nosce: non occide; non moechor; non furto fac; non falso testimonio dic; honora patre tuo et matre.

Qui ait: Hæc omnia custodivi a juventute mea.

Who said: All these things have I kept from my youth.

Qui dic: custodi hoc omni ab iuventute meo.

Quo audito, Jesus ait ei: Adhuc unum tibi deest: omnia quæcumque habes vende, et da pauperibus, et habebis thesaurum in cælo: et veni, sequere me.

Which when Jesus had heard, he said to him: Yet one thing is wanting to thee. Sell all whatever thou hast and give to the poor: and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.

Quo audi, Iesu dic ad illo: adhuc uno ad te desume: omni omni habe vende, et da ad paupere, et habe thesauro in caelo: et veni, seque me.

His ille auditis, contristatus est: quia dives erat valde.

He having heard these things, became sorrowful: for he was very rich.

Ad hoc illo audi, contrista es: quia divite es valde.

Videns autem Jesus illum tristem factum, dixit: Quam difficile, qui pecunias habent, in regnum Dei intrabunt!

And Jesus seeing him become sorrowful, said: How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God

Vidente autem Iesu illo triste facto, dic: quam difficile, qui habe pecunias, in regno de Deo intra!

facilius est enim camelum per foramen acus transire quam divitem intrare in regnum Dei.

For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Facile es nam camelo per foramine de acu transi quam divite intra in regno de Deo.

Et dixerunt qui audiebant: Et quis potest salvus fieri?

And they that heard it said: Who then can be saved?

Et qui audi dic: et qui pote salva fieri?

Ait illis: Quæ impossibilia sunt apud homines, possibilia sunt apud Deum.

He said to them: The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.

Dic ad illos: que impossibile es apud homines, possibile es apud Deo.

Ait autem Petrus: Ecce nos dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te.

Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee.

Petro autem dic: ecce nos dimitte omni et seque es te.

Qui dixit eis: Amen dico vobis, nemo est qui reliquit domum, aut parentes, aut fratres, aut uxorem, aut filios propter regnum Dei,

Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left home or parents or brethren or wife or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,

Qui dic ad illos: amen dic ad vos, nemo es qui relinque domo, aut parentes, aut fratres, aut uxore, aut filios propter regno de Deo,

et non recipiat multo plura in hoc tempore, et in sæculo venturo vitam æternam.

Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

Et non recipe multo multo in hoc tempore, et in saeculo veni vita aeterno.

Assumpsit autem Jesus duodecim, et ait illis: Ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et consummabuntur omnia quæ scripta sunt per prophetas de Filio hominis:

Then Jesus took unto him the twelve and said to them: Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and all things shall be accomplished which were written by the prophets concerning the Son of man.

Iesu autem assume duodecime, et dic ad illos: ecce ascende Ierosolyma, et omni que scribe es per prophetas de Filio de homine consumma:

tradetur enim gentibus, et illudetur, et flagellabitur, et conspuetur:

For he shall be delivered to the Gentiles and shall be mocked and scourged and spit upon.

Trade nam ad gentes, et illude, et flagella, et conspue:

et postquam flagellaverint, occident eum, et tertia die resurget.

And after they have scourged him, they will put him to death. And the third day he shall rise again.

Et postquam flagella, occide illo, et tertio die resurge.

Et ipsi nihil horum intellexerunt, et erat verbum istud absconditum ab eis, et non intelligebant quæ dicebantur.

And they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them: and they understood not the things that were said.

Et ipso intellege nihil de hoc, et es verbo isto absconditus ab illos, et non intellige que dic.

Factum est autem, cum appropinquaret Jericho, cæcus quidam sedebat secus viam, mendicans.

Now it came to pass, when he drew nigh to Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the way side, begging.

Facto es autem, cum appropinqua Iericho, caeco uno sede secus via, mendica.

Et cum audiret turbam prætereuntem, interrogabat quid hoc esset.

And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this meant.

Et cum audi turba praeteri, interroga quid hoc es.

Dixerunt autem ei quod Jesus Nazarenus transiret.

And they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

Dic autem ad illo quod Iesu Nazareno transi.

Et clamavit, dicens: Jesu, fili David, miserere mei.

And he cried out, saying: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.

Et clama, dicente: de iesu, filio Davide, misereor meo.

Et qui præibant, increpabant eum ut taceret. Ipse vero multo magis clamabat: Fili David, miserere mei.

And they that went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out much more: Son of David, have mercy on me.

Et qui praei, increpa illo ut tace. Ipso vero multo magis clama: filio Davide, misereor meo.

Stans autem Jesus jussit illum adduci ad se. Et cum appropinquasset, interrogavit illum,

And Jesus standing, commanded him to be brought unto him. And when he was come near, he asked him,

Stante autem Iesu iube illo adduce ad se. Et cum appropinqua, interroga illo,

dicens: Quid tibi vis faciam? At ille dixit: Domine, ut videam.

Saying; What wilt thou that I do to thee? But he said: Lord, that I may see.

Dicente: quid ad te vol fac? Sed illo dic: domino, ut vide.

Et Jesus dixit illi: Respice, fides tua te salvum fecit.

And Jesus said to him: Receive thy sight: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Et Iesu dic ad illo: respice, fide tuo fac salva te.

Et confestim vidit, et sequebatur illum magnificans Deum. Et omnis plebs ut vidit, dedit laudem Deo.

And immediately he saw and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

Et confestim vide, et seque illo magnifica Deo. Et omni plebe ut vide, da laude ad Deo.
