Evangelium secundum Marcum

Et cum appropinquarent Jerosolymæ et Bethaniæ ad montem Olivarum, mittit duos ex discipulis suis,

And when they were drawing near to Jerusalem and to Bethania, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples,

Et cum appropinqua de Ierosolyma et de Bethania ad monte de Olivas, mitte duo ex discipulos suo,

et ait illis: Ite in castellum, quod contra vos est, et statim introëuntes illuc, invenietis pullum ligatum, super quem nemo adhuc hominum sedit: solvite illum, et adducite.

And saith to them: Go into the village that is over against you, and immediately at your coming in thither, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no man yet hath sat. Loose him and bring him.

Et dic ad illos: greek.expression in castello, quod contra vos es, et statim introi illuc, inveni pullo ligo, super quem nemo adhuc de homines sede: solve illo, et adduce.

Et si quis vobis dixerit: Quid facitis? dicite, quia Domino necessarius est: et continuo illum dimittet huc.

And if any man shall say to you: What are you doing? Say ye that the Lord hath need of him. And immediately he will let him come hither.

Et si qui ad vos dic: quid fac? Dic, quia ad Domino necessaria es: et continuo illo dimitte huc.

Et abeuntes invenerunt pullum ligatum ante januam foris in bivio: et solvunt eum.

And going their way, they found the colt tied before the gate without, in the meeting of two ways. And they loose him.

Et i ab inveni pullo ligo ante ianua foris in bivio: et solve illo.

Et quidam de illic stantibus dicebant illis: Quid facitis solventes pullum?

And some of them that stood there said to them: What do you loosing the colt?

Et uno de ibi sta dic ad illos: quid fac solve pullo?

Qui dixerunt eis sicut præceperat illis Jesus, et dimiserunt eis.

Who said to them as Jesus had commanded them. And they let him go with them.

Qui dic ad illos sicut Iesu ad illos praecipie, et dimitte ad illos.

Et duxerunt pullum ad Jesum: et imponunt illi vestimenta sua, et sedit super eum.

And they brought the colt to Jesus. And they lay their garments on him: and he sat upon him.

Et duc pullo ad Iesu: et impone ad illo vestimentos suo, et sede super illo.

Multi autem vestimenta sua straverunt in via: alii autem frondes cædebant de arboribus, et sternebant in via.

And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down boughs from the trees and strewed them in the way.

Multo autem sterne vestimentos suo in via: alio autem caede frontes de arbores, et sterne in via.

Et qui præibant, et qui sequebantur, clamabant, dicentes: Hosanna: benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini:

And they that went before and they that followed cried, saying: Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Et qui praei, et qui seque, clama, dicente: hosanna: benedicto qui veni in nomine de Domino:

benedictum quod venit regnum patris nostri David: hosanna in excelsis.

Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh: Hosanna in the highest.

Benedicto quod veni regno de patre nostro Davide: hosanna in excelsos.

Et introivit Jerosolymam in templum: et circumspectis omnibus, cum jam vespera esset hora, exiit in Bethaniam cum duodecim.

And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple: and having viewed all things round about, when now the eventide was come, he went out to Bethania with the twelve.

Et introi Ierosolyma in templo: et circumspice ad omni, cum jam vespera es hora, exi in Bethania cum duodecime.

Et alia die cum exirent a Bethania, esuriit.

And the next day when they came out from Bethania, he was hungry.

Et alio die cum exi ab Bethania, esuri.

Cumque vidisset a longe ficum habentem folia, venit si quid forte inveniret in ea: et cum venisset ad eam, nihil invenit præter folia: non enim erat tempus ficorum.

And when he had seen afar off a fig tree having leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find any thing on it. And when he was come to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the time for figs.

Cumque vide ab longe ficu habe folios, veni si quid forte inveni in illa: et cum veni ad illa, nihil inveni praeter folios: non nam tempore de ficus es.

Et respondens dixit ei: Jam non amplius in æternum ex te fructum quisquam manducet. Et audiebant discipuli ejus.

And answering he said to it: May no man hereafter eat fruit of thee any more for ever! And his disciples heard it.

Et respondente dic ad illo: jam non ample in aeterno ex te ullo manduca fructu. Et discipulos de illo audi.

Et veniunt in Jerosolymam. Et cum introisset in templum, cœpit ejicere vendentes et ementes in templo: et mensas numulariorum, et cathedras vendentium columbas evertit:

And they came to Jerusalem. And when he was entered into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple: and over threw the tables of the moneychangers and the chairs of them that sold doves.

Et veni in Ierosolyma. Et cum introi in templo, incipe eiice vende et eme in templo: et mensas de numularios, et cathedras vende columbas everte:

et non sinebat ut quisquam transferret vas per templum:

And he suffered not that any man should carry a vessel through the temple.

Et non sine ut ullo transfer vase per templo:

et docebat, dicens eis: Nonne scriptum est: Quia domus mea, domus orationis vocabitur omnibus gentibus? vos autem fecistis eam speluncam latronum.

And he taught, saying to them: Is it not written: My house shall be called the house of prayer to all nations, but you have made it a den of thieves.

Et doce, dicente ad illos: nonne scripto es: quia domo meo, domo de oratione voca ad omni ad gentes? Vos autem fac illa spelunca de latros.

Quo audito principes sacerdotum et scribæ, quærebant quomodo eum perderent: timebant enim eum, quoniam universa turba admirabatur super doctrina ejus.

Which when the chief priests and the scribes had heard, they sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the whole multitude was in admiration at his doctrine.

Quo audi principes de sacerdotes et scribas, quaere quomodo illo perde: time nam illo, quia universa turba admiror super doctrina de illo.

Et cum vespera facta esset, egrediebatur de civitate.

And when evening was come, he went forth out of the city.

Et cum vespera facto es, egredior de civitate.

Et cum mane transirent, viderunt ficum aridam factam a radicibus.

And when they passed by in the morning they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

Et cum mane transi, vide ficu arido fac ab radices.

Et recordatus Petrus, dixit ei: Rabbi, ecce ficus, cui maledixisti, aruit.

And Peter remembering, said to him: Rabbi, behold the fig tree which thou didst curse is withered away.

Et recordor Petro, dic ad illo: rabbi, ecce ficu, ad que maledice, are.

Et respondens Jesus ait illis: Habete fidem Dei.

And Jesus answering, saith to them: Have the faith of God.

Et respondente Iesu dic ad illos: habe fide de Deo.

Amen dico vobis, quia quicumque dixerit huic monti: Tollere, et mittere in mare, et non hæsitaverit in corde suo, sed crediderit, quia quodcumque dixerit fiat, fiet ei.

Amen I say to you that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and be cast into the sea, and shall not stagger in his heart, but be believe that whatsoever he saith shall be done; it shall be done unto him.

Amen dic ad vos, quia omni dic ad hoc ad monte: tolle, et mitte in mari, et non haesita in corde suo, sed crede, quia omni dic que fi, i fi ad illo.

Propterea dico vobis, omnia quæcumque orantes petitis, credite quia accipietis, et evenient vobis.

Therefore I say unto you, all things, whatsoever you ask when ye pray, believe that you shall receive: and they shall come unto you.

Propter hoc dic ad vos, omni omni ora pete, crede quia accipe, et eveni ad vos.

Et cum stabitis ad orandum, dimittite si quid habetis adversus aliquem: ut et Pater vester, qui in cælis est, dimittat vobis peccata vestra.

And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man: that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins.

Et cum sta ad ora, dimitte si quid habe contra aliquo: ut et Patre vestro, qui in caelos es, dimitte ad vos peccatos vestro.

Quod si vos non dimiseritis: nec Pater vester, qui in cælis est, dimittet vobis peccata vestra.

But if you will not forgive, neither will your father that is in heaven forgive you your sins.

Quod si vos non dimitte: nec Patre vestro, qui in caelos es, dimitte ad vos peccatos vestro.

Et veniunt rursus Jerosolymam. Et cum ambularet in templo, accedunt ad eum summi sacerdotes, et scribæ, et seniores:

And they come again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients.

Et veni iterum Ierosolyma. Et cum ambula in templo, accede ad illo summo sacerdotes, et scribas, et sene:

et dicunt ei: In qua potestate hæc facis? et quis dedit tibi hanc potestatem ut ista facias?

And they say to him: By what authority dost thou these things? And who hath given thee this authority that thou shouldst do these things?

Et dic ad illo: in quo potestate hoc fac? Et qui da ad te hoc potestate ut isto fac?

Jesus autem respondens, ait illis: Interrogabo vos et ego unum verbum, et respondete mihi: et dicam vobis in qua potestate hæc faciam.

And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one word. And answer you me: and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

Iesu autem respondente, dic ad illos: et me interroga vos uno verbo, et responde ad me: et dic ad vos in quo potestate hoc fac.

Baptismus Joannis, de cælo erat, an ex hominibus? Respondete mihi.

The baptism of John, was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.

Baptismo de Ioanne, de caelo es, an ex homines? Responde ad me.

At illi cogitabant secum, dicentes: Si dixerimus: De cælo, dicet: Quare ergo non credidistis ei?

But they thought with themselves, saying: If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him?

Sed illo cogita se, dicente: si dic: de caelo, dic: quare ergo non crede ad illo?

Si dixerimus: Ex hominibus, timemus populum: omnes enim habebant Joannem quia vere propheta esset.

If we say, From men, we fear the people. For all men counted John that he was a prophet indeed.

Si dic: ex homines, time populo: omni nam habe Ioanne quia vere propheta es.

Et respondentes dicunt Jesu: Nescimus. Et respondens Jesus ait illis: Neque ego dico vobis in qua potestate hæc faciam.

And they answering, say to Jesus: We know not. And Jesus answering, saith to them: Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Et responde dic ad Iesu: ne sci. Et respondente Iesu dic ad illos: neque me dic ad vos in quo potestate hoc fac.
