Evangelium secundum Marcum

Et inde exsurgens venit in fines Judææ ultra Jordanem: et conveniunt iterum turbæ ad eum: et sicut consueverat, iterum docebat illos.

And rising up from thence, he cometh into the coast of Judea beyond the Jordan: and the multitude flocked to him again. And as he was accustomed, he taught them again.

Et inde ex(s)urga veni in fines de Iudaea ultra Iordane: et turbas iterum conveni ad illo: et sicut consuesce, iterum doce illos.

Et accedentes pharisæi interrogabant eum: Si licet viro uxorem dimittere: tentantes eum.

And the Pharisees coming to him asked him, tempting him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife?

Et accede pharisaeos interroga illo: si lice ad viro uxore dimitte: tenta illo.

At ille respondens, dixit eis: Quid vobis præcepit Moyses?

But he answering, saith to them: What did Moses command you?

Sed illo respondente, dic ad illos: Moyse ad vos praecipie quid?

Qui dixerunt: Moyses permisit libellum repudii scribere, et dimittere.

Who said: Moses permitted to write a bill of divorce and to put her away.

Qui dic: moyse permitte libello de repudio scribe, et dimitte.

Quibus respondens Jesus, ait: Ad duritiam cordis vestri scripsit vobis præceptum istud:

To whom Jesus answering, said: Because of the hardness of your heart, he wrote you that precept.

Ad que respondente Iesu, dic: ad duritia de corde vestro scribe ad vos praecepto isto:

ab initio autem creaturæ masculum et feminam fecit eos Deus.

But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female.

Ab initio autem de creatura masculo et femina Deo fac illos.

Propter hoc relinquet homo patrem suum et matrem, et adhærebit ad uxorem suam:

For this cause, a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife.

Propter hoc homine relinque patre suo et matre, et adhaere ad uxore suo:

et erunt duo in carne una. Itaque jam non sunt duo, sed una caro.

And they two shall be in one flesh. Therefore now they are not two, but one flesh.

Et es duo in carne uno. Itaque jam non es duo, sed uno carne.

Quod ergo Deus conjunxit, homo non separet.

What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.

Deo ergo coniunge quod, homine non separa.

Et in domo iterum discipuli ejus de eodem interrogaverunt eum.

And in the house again his disciples asked him concerning the same thing.

Et in domo iterum discipulos de illo de idem interroga illo.

Et ait illis: Quicumque dimiserit uxorem suam, et aliam duxerit, adulterium committit super eam.

And he saith to them: Whosoever shall put away his wife and marry another committeth adultery against her.

Et dic ad illos: omni dimitte uxore suo, et alio duc, adulterio committe super illa.

Et si uxor dimiserit virum suum, et alii nupserit, mœchatur.

And if the wife shall put away her husband and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Et si uxore dimitte viro suo, et alio nube, moechor.

Et offerebant illi parvulos ut tangeret illos. Discipuli autem comminabantur offerentibus.

And they brought to him young children, that he might touch them. And the disciples rebuked them that brought them.

Et offer ad illo parvulo ut tange illos. Discipulos autem comminor offer.

Quos cum videret Jesus, indigne tulit, et ait illis: Sinite parvulos venire ad me, et ne prohibueritis eos: talium enim est regnum Dei.

Whom when Jesus saw, he was much displeased and saith to them: Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Iesu cum vide que, indigne fer, et dic ad illos: sine parvulo venire ad me, et ne prohibe illos: tale nam es regno de Deo.

Amen dico vobis: Quisquis non receperit regnum Dei velut parvulus, non intrabit in illud.

Amen I say to you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter into it.

Amen dic ad vos: omni non recipe regno de Deo sicut parvulo, non intra in illo.

Et complexans eos, et imponens manus super illos, benedicebat eos.

And embracing them and laying his hands upon them, he blessed them.

Et complexa illos, et impone manus super illos, benedic illos.

Et cum egressus esset in viam, procurrens quidam genu flexo ante eum, rogabat eum: Magister bone, quid faciam ut vitam æternam percipiam?

And when he was gone forth into the way, a certain man, running up and kneeling before him, asked him: Good Master, what shall I do that I may receive life everlasting?

Et cum egredior es in via, procurre uno genu flecte ante illo, roga illo: magistro bono, quid fac ut vita aeterno percipe?

Jesus autem dixit ei: Quid me dicis bonum? nemo bonus, nisi unus Deus.

And Jesus said to him: Why callest thou me good? None is good but one, that is God.

Iesu autem dic ad illo: quid me dic bono? Nemo bono, nisi uno Deo.

Præcepta nosti: ne adulteres, ne occidas, ne fureris, ne falsum testimonium dixeris, ne fraudem feceris, honora patrem tuum et matrem.

Thou knowest the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, bear not false witness, do no fraud, honour thy father and mother.

Praeceptos nosce: ne adultera, ne occide, ne furore, ne falso testimonio dic, ne fraude fac, honora patre tuo et matre.

At ille respondens, ait illi: Magister, hæc omnia observavi a juventute mea.

But he answering, said to him: Master, all these things I have observed from my youth.

Sed illo respondente, dic ad illo: magistro, hoc omni observa ab iuventute meo.

Jesus autem intuitus eum, dilexit eum, et dixit ei: Unum tibi deest: vade, quæcumque habes vende, et da pauperibus, et habebis thesaurum in cælo: et veni, sequere me.

And Jesus, looking on him, loved him and said to him: One thing is wanting unto thee. Go, sell whatsoever thou hast and give to the poor: and thou shalt have treasure in heaven. And come, follow me.

Iesu autem intueor illo, dilige illo, et dic ad illo: uno ad te desume: vade, omni habe vende, et da ad paupere, et habe thesauro in caelo: et veni, seque me.

Qui contristatus in verbo, abiit mœrens: erat enim habens multas possessiones.

Who being struck sad at that saying, went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

Qui contrista in verbo, i ab moere: es nam habente multo possessiones.

Et circumspiciens Jesus, ait discipulis suis: Quam difficile qui pecunias habent, in regnum Dei introibunt!

And Jesus looking round about, saith to his disciples: How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

Et circumspice Iesu, dic ad discipulos suo: quam difficile qui habe pecunias, in regno de Deo introi!

Discipuli autem obstupescebant in verbis ejus. At Jesus rursus respondens ait illis: Filioli, quam difficile est, confidentes in pecuniis, in regnum Dei introire!

And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus again answering, saith to them: Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God?

Discipulos autem obstupesce in verbos de illo. Sed Iesu iterum respondente de filiolio ad illos: dic, quam difficile es, confide in pecunias, in regno de Deo introi!

Facilius est camelum per foramen acus transire, quam divitem intrare in regnum Dei.

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Facile es camelo per foramine de acu transi, quam divite intra in regno de Deo.

Qui magis admirabantur, dicentes ad semetipsos: Et quis potest salvus fieri?

Who wondered the more, saying among themselves: Who then can be saved?

Qui magis admiror, dicente ad semetipso: et qui pote salva fieri?

Et intuens illos Jesus, ait: Apud homines impossibile est, sed non apud Deum: omnia enim possibilia sunt apud Deum.

And Jesus looking on them, saith with men it is impossible; but not with God. For all things are possible with God.

Et intueor illos Iesu, dic: apud homines impossibile es, sed non apud Deo: omni nam possibile es apud Deo.

Et cœpit ei Petrus dicere: Ecce nos dimisimus omnia, et secuti sumus te.

And Peter began to say unto him: Behold, we have left all things and have followed thee.

Et Petro ad illo incipe dicere: ecce nos dimitte omni, et seque es te.

Respondens Jesus, ait: Amen dico vobis: Nemo est qui reliquerit domum, aut fratres, aut sorores, aut patrem, aut matrem, aut filios, aut agros propter me et propter Evangelium,

Jesus answering said: Amen I say to you, there is no man who hath left house or brethren or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,

Respondente Iesu, dic: amen dic ad vos: nemo es qui relinque domo, aut fratres, aut sorores, aut patre, aut matre, aut filios, aut agros propter me et propter Evangelio,

qui non accipiat centies tantum, nunc in tempore hoc: domos, et fratres, et sorores, et matres, et filios, et agros, cum persecutionibus, et in sæculo futuro vitam æternam.

Who shall not receive an hundred times as much, now in this time: houses and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions: and in the world to come life everlasting.

Qui non accipe centiens tanto, nunc in tempore hoc: domos, et fratres, et sorores, et matres, et filios, et agros, cum persecutiones, et in saeculo futuro vita aeterno.

Multi autem erunt primi novissimi, et novissimi primi.

But many that are first shall be last: and the last, first.

Multo autem es primo novissimo, et novissimo primo.

Erant autem in via ascendentes Jerosolymam: et præcedebat illos Jesus, et stupebant: et sequentes timebant. Et assumens iterum duodecim, cœpit illis dicere quæ essent ei eventura.

And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem: and Jesus went before them. And they were astonished and following were afraid. And taking again the twelve, he began to tell them the things that should befall him.

Es autem in via ascende Ierosolyma: et Iesu praecede illos, et stupe: et seque time. Et assume iterum duodecime, incipe ad illos dicere que es ad illo eveni.

Quia ecce ascendimus Jerosolymam, et Filius hominis tradetur principibus sacerdotum, et scribis, et senioribus, et damnabunt eum morte, et tradent eum gentibus:

Saying: Behold we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes and ancients. And they shall condemn him to death and shall deliver him to the Gentiles.

Quia ecce ascende Ierosolyma, et Filio de homine trade ad principes de sacerdotes, et ad scribas, et ad sene, et damna illo morte, et trade illo ad gentes:

et illudent ei, et conspuent eum, et flagellabunt eum, et interficient eum: et tertia die resurget.

And they shall mock him and spit on him and scourge him and kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Et illude ad illo, et conspue illo, et flagella illo, et interfice illo: et tertio die resurge.

Et accedunt ad eum Jacobus et Joannes filii Zebedæi, dicentes: Magister, volumus ut quodcumque petierimus, facias nobis.

And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come to him, saying: Master, we desire that whatsoever we shall ask, thou wouldst do it for us.

Et Iacobo ad illo et Ioanne filios de Zebedaeo accede, dicente: magistro, vol ut omni pete, fac ad nos.

At ille dixit eis: Quid vultis ut faciam vobis?

But he said to them: What would you that I should do for you?

Sed illo dic ad illos: quid vol ut fac ad vos?

Et dixerunt: Da nobis ut unus ad dexteram tuam, et alius ad sinistram tuam sedeamus in gloria tua.

And they said: Grant to us that we may sit, one on thy right hand and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

Et dic: da ad nos ut uno ad dextera tuo, et alio ad sinistra tuo sede in gloria tuo.

Jesus autem ait eis: Nescitis quid petatis: potestis bibere calicem, quem ego bibo, aut baptismo, quo ego baptizor, baptizari?

And Jesus said to them: You know not what you ask. Can you drink of the chalice that I drink of or be baptized with the baptism wherewith I am baptized?

Iesu autem dic ad illos: ne sci quid pete: pote bibe calice, me bibe quem, aut baptismo, quo me baptiza, baptiza?

At illi dixerunt ei: Possumus. Jesus autem ait eis: Calicem quidem, quem ego bibo, bibetis; et baptismo, quo ego baptizor, baptizabimini:

But they said to him: We can. And Jesus saith to them: You shall indeed drink of the chalice that I drink of; and with the baptism wherewith I am baptized you shall be baptized.

Sed illo dic ad illo: pote. Iesu autem dic ad illos: calice quidem, me bibe quem, bibe; et baptismo, quo me baptiza, baptiza:

sedere autem ad dexteram meam, vel ad sinistram, non est meum dare vobis, sed quibus paratum est.

But to sit on my right hand or on my left is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared.

Sede autem ad dextera meo, vel ad sinistra, non es meo dare ad vos, sed ad que para es.

Et audientes decem, cœperunt indignari de Jacobo et Joanne.

And the ten, hearing it, began to be much displeased at James and John.

Et audi deceme, incipe indignor de Iacobo et Ioanne.

Jesus autem vocans eos, ait illis: Scitis quia hi, qui videntur principari gentibus, dominantur eis: et principes eorum potestatem habent ipsorum.

But Jesus calling them, saith to them: You know that they who seem to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them: and their princes have power over them.

Iesu autem voca illos, dic ad illos: sci quia hoc, qui vide principor ad gentes, dominor ad illos: et principes de illos habe potestate ipso.

Non ita est autem in vobis, sed quicumque voluerit fieri major, erit vester minister:

But it is not so among you: but whosoever will be greater shall be your minister.

Non ita es autem in vos, sed omni vol fieri magna, es vestro ministro:

et quicumque voluerit in vobis primus esse, erit omnium servus.

And whosoever will be first among you shall be the servant of all.

Et omni vol in vos primo es, es de omni servo.

Nam et Filius hominis non venit ut ministraretur ei, sed ut ministraret, et daret animam suam redemptionem pro multis.

For the Son of man also is not come to be ministered unto: but to minister and to give his life a redemption for many.

Nam et Filio de homine non veni ut ministra ad illo, sed ut ministra, et da anima suo redemptione pro multo.

Et veniunt Jericho: et proficiscente eo de Jericho, et discipulis ejus, et plurima multitudine, filius Timæi Bartimæus cæcus, sedebat juxta viam mendicans.

And they came to Jericho. And as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a very great multitude, Bartimeus the blind man, the son of Timeus, sat by the way side begging.

Et veni Iericho: et proficiscor eo de Iericho, et discipulos de illo, et multo multitudine, filio de Timaeio Bartimaei caeco, sede juxta via mendica.

Qui cum audisset quia Jesus Nazarenus est, cœpit clamare, et dicere: Jesu fili David, miserere mei.

Who when he had heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, began to cry out and to say: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.

Qui cum audi quia Iesu Nazareno es, incipe clama, et dicere: de iesu filio Davide, misereor meo.

Et comminabantur ei multi ut taceret. At ille multo magis clamabat: Fili David, miserere mei.

And many rebuked him, that he might hold his peace; but he cried a great deal the more: Son of David, have mercy on me.

Et multo ad illo comminor ut tace. Sed illo multo magis clama: filio Davide, misereor meo.

Et stans Jesus præcepit illum vocari. Et vocant cæcum, dicentes ei: Animæquior esto: surge, vocat te.

And Jesus, standing still, commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying to him: Be of better comfort. Arise, he calleth thee.

Et stante Iesu praecipie illo voca. Et voca caeco, dicente ad illo: de animaequo es: surge, voca te.

Qui projecto vestimento suo exiliens, venit ad eum.

Who casting off his garment leaped up and came to him.

Qui proicie vestimento suo ex(s)ili, veni ad illo.

Et respondens Jesus dixit illi: Quid tibi vis faciam? Cæcus autem dixit ei: Rabboni, ut videam.

And Jesus answering, said to him: What wilt thou that I should do to thee? And the blind man said to him: Rabboni. That I may see.

Et respondente Iesu dic ad illo: quid ad te vol fac? Caeco autem dic ad illo: rabbonio, ut vide.

Jesus autem ait illi: Vade, fides tua te salvum fecit. Et confestim vidit, et sequebatur eum in via.

And Jesus saith to him: Go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he saw and followed him in the way.

Iesu autem dic ad illo: vade, fide tuo fac salva te. Et confestim vide, et seque illo in via.
