Liber Deuteronomii

Abiit itaque Moyses, et locutus est omnia verba hæc ad universum Israël,

And Moses went, and spoke all these words to all Israel,

Moyse itaque i ab, et locuto es omni verbos hoc ad universa Israële,

et dixit ad eos: Centum viginti annorum sum hodie; non possum ultra egredi et ingredi, præsertim cum et Dominus dixerit mihi: Non transibis Jordanem istum.

And he said to them: I am this day a hundred and twenty years old, I can no longer go out and come in, especially as the Lord also hath said to me: Thou shalt not pass over this Jordan.

Et dic ad illos: cento viginti de annos es hodie; non pote ultra egredior et ingredior, praesertim cum et Domino dic ad me: non transi Iordane isto.

Dominus ergo Deus tuus transibit ante te: ipse delebit omnes gentes has in conspectu tuo, et possidebis eas: et Josue iste transibit ante te, sicut locutus est Dominus.

The Lord thy God then will pass over before thee: he will destroy all these nations in thy sight, and thou shalt possess them: and this Josue shall go over before thee, as the Lord hath spoken.

Domino ergo Deo tuo transi ante te: ipso dele omni gentes hoc in conspectu tuo, et posside illas: et Ioso isto transi ante te, sicut locuto es Domino.

Facietque Dominus eis sicut fecit Sehon et Og regibus Amorrhæorum, et terræ eorum, delebitque eos.

And the Lord shall do to them as he did to Sehon and Og the kings of the Amorrhites, and to their land, and shall destroy them.

Et Domino i fac ad illos sicut fac Sehone et Oge ad reges de Amorrhaeis, et de terra de illos, et dele illos.

Cum ergo et hos tradiderit vobis, similiter facietis eis, sicut præcepi vobis.

Therefore when the Lord shall have delivered these also to you, you shall do in like manner to them as I have commanded you.

Cum ergo et hoc trade ad vos, similiter fac ad illos, sicut praecipie ad vos.

Viriliter agite, et confortamini: nolite timere, nec paveatis ad conspectum eorum: quia Dominus Deus tuus ipse est ductor tuus, et non dimittet, nec derelinquet te.

Do manfully and be of good heart: fear not, nor be ye dismayed at their sight: for the Lord thy God he himself is thy leader, and will not leave thee nor forsake thee.

Viriliter age, et conforta: ne vol time, nec pave ad conspectu de illos: quia Domino Deo tuo ipso es ductore tuo, et non dimitte, nec derelinque te.

Vocavitque Moyses Josue, et dixit ei coram omni Israël: Confortare, et esto robustus: tu enim introduces populum istum in terram, quam daturum se patribus eorum juravit Dominus, et tu eam sorte divides.

And Moses called Josue, and said to him before all Israel: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring this people into the land which the Lord swore he would give to their fathers, and thou shalt divide it by lot.

Et Moyse voca Ioso, et dic ad illo coram omni Israële: conforta, et es robusta: te nam introduce populo isto in terra, quam da se ad patres de illos Domino iura, et te illa sorte divide.

Et Dominus qui ductor est vester, ipse erit tecum: non dimittet, nec derelinquet te: noli timere, nec paveas.

And the Lord who is your leader, he himself will be with thee: he will not leave thee, nor forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.

Et Domino qui ductore es vestro, ipso es tecum: non dimitte, nec derelinque te: ne vol time, nec pave.

Scripsit itaque Moyses legem hanc, et tradidit eam sacerdotibus filiis Levi, qui portabant arcam fœderis Domini, et cunctis senioribus Israël.

And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it to the priests the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the ancients of Israel.

Moyse itaque scribe lege hoc, et trade illa ad sacerdotes ad filios de Levi, qui porta arca de foedro de Domino, et cuncta sene Israële.

Præcepitque eis, dicens: Post septem annos, anno remissionis, in solemnitate tabernaculorum,

And he commanded them, saying: After seven years, in the year of remission, in the feast of tabernacles,

Et praecipie ad illos, dicente: post septeme anno, anno de remissione, in solemnitate de tabernaculos,

convenientibus cunctis ex Israël, ut appareant in conspectu Domini Dei tui in loco quem elegerit Dominus, leges verba legis hujus coram omni Israël, audientibus eis,

When all Israel come together, to appear in the sight of the Lord thy God in the place which the Lord shall choose, thou shalt read the words of this law before all Israel, in their hearing.

Conveni cuncta ex Israële, ut appare in conspectu de Domino de Deo tuo in loco Domino elige quem, leges verbos de lege de hoc coram omni Israële, audi ad illos,

et in unum omni populo congregato, tam viris quam mulieribus, parvulis, et advenis, qui sunt intra portas tuas: ut audientes discant, et timeant Dominum Deum vestrum, et custodiant, impleantque omnes sermones legis hujus.

And the people being all assembled together, both men and women, children and strangers, that are within thy gates: that hearing they may learn, and fear the Lord your God, and keep, and fulfil all the words of this law:

Et in uno omni populo congrega, tam viros quam ad mulieres, parvulo, et ad advenos, qui es intra portas tuo: ut audi disce, et time Domino Deo vestro, et custodi, et imple omni sermones de lege de hoc.

Filii quoque eorum qui nunc ignorant, ut audire possint, et timeant Dominum Deum suum cunctis diebus quibus versantur in terra, ad quam vos, Jordane transmisso, pergitis obtinendam.

That their children also, who now are ignorant, may hear, and fear the Lord their God, all the days that they live in the land whither you are going over the Jordan to possess it.

Filios etiam de illos qui nunc ignora, ut audire pote, et time Domino Deo suo cuncta dies ad que versa in terra, ad quam vos, Iordane transmita, perge obtine.

Et ait Dominus ad Moysen: Ecce prope sunt dies mortis tuæ: voca Josue, et state in tabernaculo testimonii, ut præcipiam ei. Abierunt ergo Moyses et Josue, et steterunt in tabernaculo testimonii:

And the Lord said to Moses: Behold the days of thy death are nigh: call Josue, and stand ye in the tabernacle of the testimony, that I may give him a charge. So Moses and Josue went and stood in the tabernacle of the testimony:

Et Domino dic ad Moyse: ecce prope es dies de morte tuo: voca Ioso, et sta in tabernaculo de testimonio, ut praecipie ad illo. Moyse ergo et Ioso i ab, et sta in tabernaculo de testimonio:

apparuitque Dominus ibi in columna nubis, quæ stetit in introitu tabernaculi.

And the Lord appeared there in the pillar of a cloud, which stood in the entry of the tabernacle.

Et Domino appare ibi in columna de nube, que sta in introitu de tabernaculo.

Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen: Ecce tu dormies cum patribus tuis, et populus iste consurgens fornicabitur post deos alienos in terra, ad quam ingreditur ut habitet in ea: ibi derelinquet me, et irritum faciet fœdus, quod pepigi cum eo.

And the Lord said to Moses: Behold thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, and this people rising up will go a fornicating after strange gods in the land, to which it goeth in to dwell: there will they forsake me, and will make void the covenant, which I have made with them,

Et Domino dic ad Moyse: ecce te dormi cum patres tuo, et populo isto consurge fornicor post deos aliena in terra, ad quam ingredior ut habita in illa: ibi derelinque me, et irrito i fac foedere, quod pepiga cum eo.

Et irascetur furor meus contra eum in die illo: et derelinquam eum, et abscondam faciem meam ab eo, et erit in devorationem: invenient eum omnia mala et afflictiones, ita ut dicat in illo die: Vere quia non est Deus mecum, invenerunt me hæc mala.

And my wrath shall be kindled against them in that day: and I will forsake them, and will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured: all evils and afflictions shall find them, so that they shall say in that day: In truth it is because God is not with me, that these evils have found me.

Et furore meo irasce contra illo in die illo: et derelinque illo, et absconde facie meo ab eo, et es in devoratione: omni malo et afflictiones inveni illo, ita ut que dic in illo die: vere quia non es Deo mecum, hoc inveni me malo.

Ego autem abscondam, et celabo faciem meam in die illo propter omnia mala, quæ fecit, quia secutus est deos alienos.

But I will hide, and cover my face in that day, for all the evils which they have done, because they have followed strange gods.

Me autem absconde, et cela facie meo in die illo propter omni malo, que fac, quia secuto es deos aliena.

Nunc itaque scribite vobis canticum istud, et docete filios Israël: ut memoriter teneant, et ore decantent, et sit mihi carmen istud pro testimonio inter filios Israël.

Now therefore write you this canticle, and teach the children of Israel: that they may know it by heart, and sing it by mouth, and this song may be unto me for a testimony among the children of Israel.

Nunc itaque scribe ad vos cantico isto, et doce filios Israële: ut memoriter tene, et ore decanta, et carmine ad me isto es pro testimonio inter filios Israële.

Introducam enim eum in terram, pro qua juravi patribus ejus, lacte et melle manantem. Cumque comederint, et saturati, crassique fuerint, avertentur ad deos alienos, et servient eis: detrahentque mihi, et irritum facient pactum meum.

For I will bring them into the land, for which I swore to their fathers, that floweth with milk and honey. And when they have eaten, and are full and fat, they will turn away after strange gods, and will serve them: and will despise me, and make void my covenant.

Introduca nam illo in terra, pro quo iura ad patres de illo, lacte et melle mana. Cumque comede, et satura, et crasso es, averte ad deos aliena, et servi ad illos: et detrahe ad me, et irrito fac pacto meo.

Postquam invenerint eum mala multa et afflictiones, respondebit ei canticum istud pro testimonio, quod nulla delebit oblivio ex ore seminis sui. Scio enim cogitationes ejus, quæ facturus sit hodie, antequam introducam eum in terram, quam ei pollicitus sum.

And after many evils and afflictions shall have come upon them, this canticle shall answer them for a testimony, which no oblivion shall take away out of the mouth of their seed. For I know their thoughts, and what they are about to do this day, before that I bring them into the land which I have promised them.

Postquam malo multo et afflictiones inveni illo, responde ad illo cantico isto pro testimonio, quod nullo dele oblivione ex ore de semine suo. Sci nam cogitationes de illo, que fac es hodie, antequam introduce illo in terra, quam ad illo polliceor es.

Scripsit ergo Moyses canticum, et docuit filios Israël.

Moses therefore wrote the canticle, and taught it to the children of Israel.

Moyse ergo scribe cantico, et doce filios Israële.

Præcepitque Dominus Josue filio Nun, et ait: Confortare, et esto robustus: tu enim introduces filios Israël in terram, quam pollicitus sum, et ego ero tecum.

And the Lord commanded Josue the son of Nun, and said: Take courage, and be valiant: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I have promised, and I will be with thee.

Et Domino Ioso ad filio Nune praecipie, et dic: conforta, et es robusta: te nam introduce filios Israële in terra, quam polliceor es, et me es tecum.

Postquam ergo scripsit Moyses verba legis hujus in volumine, atque complevit,

Therefore after Moses had wrote the words of this law in a volume, and finished it:

Postquam ergo Moyse scribe verbos de lege de hoc in volumine, et comple,

præcepit Levitis, qui portabant arcam fœderis Domini, dicens:

He commanded the Levites, who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying:

Praecipie ad Levitis, qui porta arca de foedro de Domino, dicente:

Tollite librum istum, et ponite eum in latere arcæ fœderis Domini Dei vestri: ut sit ibi contra te in testimonium.

Take this book, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God: that it may be there for a testimony against thee.

Tolle libro isto, et pone illo in latere de arca de foedro de Domino de Deo vestro: ut es ibi contra te in testimonio.

Ego enim scio contentionem tuam, et cervicem tuam durissimam. Adhuc vivente me et ingrediente vobiscum, semper contentiose egistis contra Dominum: quanto magis cum mortuus fuero?

For I know thy obstinacy, and thy most stiff neck. While I am yet living, and going in with you, you have always been rebellious against the Lord: how much more when I shall be dead?

Me nam sci contentione tuo, et cervice tuo dure. Adhuc vive me et ingredior vos, semper contentiose age contra Domino: quanto magis cum morto es?

Congregate ad me omnes majores natu per tribus vestras, atque doctores, et loquar audientibus eis sermones istos, et invocabo contra eos cælum et terram.

Gather unto me all the ancients of your tribes, and your doctors, and I will speak these words in their hearing, and will call heaven and earth to witness against them.

Congrega ad me omni magna natu per tre vestro, et doctores, et loque audi ad illos sermones isto, et invoca contra illos caelo et terra.

Novi enim quod post mortem meam inique agetis, et declinabitis cito de via, quam præcepi vobis: et occurrent vobis mala in extremo tempore, quando feceritis malum in conspectu Domini, ut irritetis eum per opera manuum vestrarum.

For I know that, after my death, you will do wickedly, and will quickly turn aside form the way that I have commanded you: and evils shall come upon you in the latter times, when you shall do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him by the works of your hands.

Nosce nam quod post morte meo inique age, et declina cito de via, quam praecipie ad vos: et occurre ad vos malo in extremo tempore, quando fac malo in conspectu de Domino, ut irrite illo per operes de manus vestro.

Locutus est ergo Moyses, audiente universo cœtu Israël, verba carminis hujus, et ad finem usque complevit.

Moses therefore spoke, in the hearing of the whole assembly of Israel, the words of this canticle, and finished it even to the end.

Locuto es ergo Moyse, audi universa coetu Israële, verbos de carmine de hoc, et ad fine usque comple.
