Et rex Ægypti congregavit exercitum, sicut arena quæ est circa oram maris, et naves multas: et quærebat obtinere regnum Alexandri dolo, et addere illud regno suo.

And the king of Egypt gathered together an army, like the sand that lieth upon the sea shore, and many ships: and he sought to get the kingdom of Alexander by deceit, and join it to his own kingdom.

Et rege de Aegypto congrega exercitu, sicut arena que es circa ora de mari, et navis multo: et quaere obtine regno de Alexandro dolo, et adde illo regno suo.

Et exiit in Syriam verbis pacificis, et aperiebant ei civitates, et occurrebant ei: quia mandaverat Alexander rex exire ei obviam, eo quod socer suus esset.

And he went out into Syria with peaceable words and they opened to him the cities, and met him: for king Alexander had ordered them to go forth to meet him, because he was his father in law.

Et exi in Syria verbos pacifica, et aperi ad illo civitates, et occurre ad illo: quia Alexandro rege manda exi illo obviam, eo quod socero suo es.

Cum autem introiret civitatem Ptolemæus, ponebat custodias militum in singulis civitatibus.

Now when Ptolemee entered into the cities, he put garrisons of soldiers in every city.

Cum autem Ptolemaeo introi civitate, pone custodias de milites in singulo civitates.

Et ut appropiavit Azoto, ostenderunt ei templum Dagon succensum igni, et Azotum, et cetera ejus demolita, et corpora projecta, et eorum, qui cæsi erant in bello, tumulos quos fecerant secus viam.

And when he came near to Azotus, they shewed him the temple of Dagon that was burnt with fire, and Azotus, and the suburbs thereof, that were destroyed, and the bodies that were cast abroad, and the graves of them that were slain in the battle, which they had made near the way.

Et ut appropia Azoto, ostende ad illo templo de Dagone succense igni, et Azoto, et cetero de illo demolita, et corpores proicie, et de illos, qui caede es in bello, tumulos que fac secus via.

Et narraverunt regi quia hæc fecit Jonathas, ut invidiam facerent ei: et tacuit rex.

And they told the king that Jonathan had done these things, to make him odious: but the king held his peace.

Et narra ad rege quia Ionathase fac hoc, ut invidia fac ad illo: et rege tace.

Et occurrit Jonathas regi in Joppen cum gloria, et invicem se salutaverunt, et dormierunt illic.

And Jonathan came to meet the king at Joppe with glory, and they saluted one another, and they lodged there.

Et Ionathase occurre ad rege in Ioppe cum gloria, et invicem se saluta, et dormi ibi.

Et abiit Jonathas cum rege usque ad fluvium qui vocatur Eleutherus: et reversus est in Jerusalem.

And Jonathan went with the king as far as the river, called Eleutherus: and he returned into Jerusalem.

Et Ionathase i ab cum rege usque ad fluvio qui voca Eleuthero: et reverte es in Ierusalem.

Rex autem Ptolemæus obtinuit dominium civitatum usque Seleuciam maritimam, et cogitabat in Alexandrum consilia mala.

And king Ptolemee got the dominion of the cities by the sea side, even to Seleucia, and he devised evil designs against Alexander.

Rege autem Ptolemaeo obtine dominio de civitates usque Seleucia maritimo, et cogita in Alexandro consilios malo.

Et misit legatos ad Demetrium, dicens: Veni, componamus inter nos pactum, et dabo tibi filiam meam, quam habet Alexander, et regnabis in regno patris tui:

And he sent ambassadors to Demetrius, saying: Come, let us make a league between us, and I will give thee my daughter whom Alexander hath, and thou shalt reign in the kingdom of thy father.

Et mitte legatos ad Demetrio, dicente: venie, compone inter nos paciscor, et da ad te filia meo, Alexandro habe quam, et regna in regno de patre tuo:

pœnitet enim me quod dederim illi filiam meam: quæsivit enim me occidere.

For I repent that I have given him my daughter: for he hath sought to kill me.

Poenite nam me quod da ad illo filia meo: quaere nam me occide.

Et vituperavit eum, propterea quod concupierat regnum ejus.

And he slandered him, because he coveted his kingdom,

Et vitupera illo, propter hoc quod concupie regno de illo.

Et abstulit filiam suam, et dedit eam Demetrio, et alienavit se ab Alexandro, et manifestæ sunt inimicitiæ ejus.

And he took away his daughter, and gave her to Demetrius, and alienated himself from Alexander, and his enmities were made manifest.

Et aufer filia suo, et da illa ad Demetrio, et aliena se ab Alexandro, et manifesto es inimicitias de illo.

Et intravit Ptolemæus Antiochiam, et imposuit duo diademata capiti suo, Ægypti et Asiæ.

And Ptolemee entered into Antioch, and set two crowns upon his head, that of Egypt, and that of Asia.

Et Ptolemaeo intra Antiochia, et impone duo diademate ad capite suo, de Aegypto et de Asia.

Alexander autem rex erat in Cilicia illis temporibus: quia rebellabant qui erant in locis illis.

Now king Alexander was in Cilicia at that time: because they that were in those places had rebelled.

Alexandro autem rege es in Cilicia ad illos tempores: quia rebella qui es in locos ad illos.

Et audivit Alexander, et venit ad eum in bellum: et produxit Ptolemæus rex exercitum, et occurrit ei in manu valida, et fugavit eum.

And when Alexander heard of it, he came to give him battle: and king Ptolemee brought forth his army, and met him with a strong power, and put him to flight.

Et Alexandro audi, et veni ad illo in bello: et Ptolemaeo rege produce exercitu, et occurre ad illo in manu valida, et fuga illo.

Et fugit Alexander in Arabiam, ut ibi protegeretur: rex autem Ptolemæus exaltatus est.

And Alexander fled into Arabia, there to be protected: and king Ptolemee was exalted.

Et Alexandro fuge in Arabia, ut ibi protige: rege autem Ptolemaeo exalta es.

Et abstulit Zabdiel Arabs caput Alexandri, et misit Ptolemæo.

And Zabdiel the Arabian took off Alexander's head, and sent it to Ptolemee.

Et aufer Zabdiele Arabe capite de Alexandro, et mitte ad Ptolemaeo.

Et rex Ptolemæus mortuus est in die tertia: et qui erant in munitionibus, perierunt ab his qui erant intra castra.

And king Ptolemee died the third day after: and they that were in the strong holds were destroyed by them that were within the camp.

Et rege Ptolemaeo morto es in die tertio: et qui es in munitiones, peri ab hoc qui es intra castros.

Et regnavit Demetrius anno centesimo sexagesimo septimo.

And Demetrius reigned in the hundred and sixty-seventh year.

Et Demetrio regna anno centesimo sexagesimo septimo.

In diebus illis congregavit Jonathas eos qui erant in Judæa, ut expugnarent arcem quæ est in Jerusalem: et fecerunt contra eam machinas multas.

In those days Jonathan gathered together them that were in Judea, to take the castle that was in Jerusalem: and they made many engines of war against it.

In dies ad illos Ionathase congrega illos qui es in Iudaea, ut expugna arce que es in Ierusalem: et fac contra illa machinas multo.

Et abierunt quidam qui oderant gentem suam viri iniqui ad regem Demetrium, et renuntiaverunt ei quod Jonathas obsideret arcem.

Then some wicked men that hated their own nation, went away to king Demetrius, and told him that Jonathan was besieging the castle.

Et uno qui ode gente suo viros iniquo ad rege Demetrio i ab, et renuntia ad illo quod Ionathase obside arce.

Et ut audivit, iratus est: et statim venit ad Ptolemaidam, et scripsit Jonathæ ne obsideret arcem, sed occurreret sibi ad colloquium festinato.

And when he heard it, he was angry: and forthwith he came to Ptolemais, and wrote to Jonathan that he should not besiege the castle, but should come to him in haste, and speak to him.

Et ut audi, irascor es: et statim veni ad Ptolemaida, et scribe ad Ionatha ne obside arce, sed occurre ad se ad colloquio festina.

Ut audivit autem Jonathas, jussit obsidere: et elegit de senioribus Israël, et de sacerdotibus, et dedit se periculo.

But when Jonathan heard this, he bade them besiege it still: and he chose some of the ancients of Israel, and of the priests, and put himself in danger

Ut Ionathase autem audi, iube obside: et elige de sene Israële, et de sacerdotes, et da se periculo.

Et accepit aurum, et argentum, et vestem, et alia xenia multa, et abiit ad regem Ptolemaidam: et invenit gratiam in conspectu ejus,

And he took gold, and silver, and raiment, and many other presents, and went to the king to Ptolemais and he found favour in his sight.

Et accipe auro, et argento, et veste, et alio xenios multo, et i ab ad rege Ptolemaida: et inveni gratia in conspectu de illo,

et interpellabant adversus eum quidam iniqui ex gente sua.

And certain wicked men of his nation made complaints against him.

Et uno contra illo iniquo ex gente suo interpella.

Et fecit ei rex sicut fecerant ei qui ante eum fuerant: et exaltavit eum in conspectu omnium amicorum suorum,

And the king treated him as his predecessors had done before: and he exalted him in the sight of all his friends.

Et rege ad illo fac sicut fac ad illo qui ante illo es: et exalta illo in conspectu de omni de amicos suo,

et statuit ei principatum sacerdotii, et quæcumque alia habuit prius pretiosa, et fecit eum principem amicorum.

And he confirmed him in the high priesthood and all the honours he had before, and he made him the chief of his friends.

Et statue ad illo principatu de sacerdotio, et omni alio habe ante pretioso, et fac illo principe de amicos.

Et postulavit Jonathas a rege ut immunem faceret Judæam, et tres toparchias, et Samariam et confines ejus: et promisit ei talenta trecenta.

And Jonathan requested of the king that he would make Judea free from tribute, and the three governments, and Samaria, and the confines thereof: and he promised him three hundred talents.

Et Ionathase postula ab rege ut immune fac Iudaea, et tre toparchea, et Samaria et confes de illo: et promitte ad illo talentos trecenti.

Et consensit rex: et scripsit Jonathæ epistolas de his omnibus, hunc modum continentes:

And the king consented: and he wrote letters to Jonathan of all these things, to this effect.

Et rege consentie: et scribe ad Ionatha epistolas de hoc ad omni, hoc modo contine:

Rex Demetrius fratri Jonathæ salutem, et genti Judæorum.

King Demetrius to his brother, Jonathan, and to the nation of the Jews, greeting.

Rege Demetrio ad fratre ad Ionatha salute, et ad gente de Iudaeos.

Exemplum epistolæ, quam scripsimus Lastheni parenti nostro de vobis, misimus ad vos ut sciretis:

We send you here a copy of the letter which we have written to Lasthenes, our parent, concerning you, that you might know it.

Exemplo de epistola, quam scribe ad Lastheno ad parente nostro de vos, mitte ad vos ut sci:

Rex Demetrius Lastheni parenti salutem.

King Demetrius to Lasthenes, his parent, greetings.

Rege Demetrio de Lastheno ad parente salute.

Genti Judæorum amicis nostris, et conservantibus quæ justa sunt apud nos, decrevimus benefacere propter benignitatem ipsorum, quam erga nos habent.

We have determined to do good to the nation of the Jews, who are our friends, and keep the things that are just with us, for their good will which they bear towards us.

Ad gentio de Iudaeos ad amicos nostro, et conserva que iusto es apud nos, decerne beneface propter benignitate ipso, quam erga nos habe.

Statuimus ergo illis omnes fines Judææ, et tres civitates, Lydan, et Ramathan, quæ additæ sunt Judææ ex Samaria, et omnes confines earum, sequestrari omnibus sacrificantibus in Jerosolymis pro his quæ ab eis prius accipiebat rex per singulos annos, et pro fructibus terræ et pomorum.

We have ratified, therefore, unto them all the borders of Judea, and the three cities, Apherema, Lydda, and Ramatha, which are added to Judea, out of Samaria, and all their confines, to be set apart to all them that sacrifice in Jerusalem, instead of the payments which the king received of them every year, and for the fruits of the land, and of the trees.

Statue ergo ad illos omni fines de Iudaea, et tre civitate, Lydane, et Ramathane, que adde es de Iudaea ex Samaria, et omni confes de illas, sequesta ad omni sacrifica in Ierosolymas pro hoc rege ab illos ante accipe que per singulo annos, et pro fructus de terra et de pomos.

Et alia quæ ad nos pertinebant decimarum et tributorum ex hoc tempore, remittimus eis: et areas salinarum, et coronas, quæ nobis deferebantur,

And as for other things that belonged to us of the tithes, and of the tributes, from this time we discharge them of them: the saltpans also, and the crowns that were presented to us.

Et alio que ad nos pertine de decimas et de tributos ex hoc tempore, remitte ad illos: et areas de salinas, et coronas, que ad nos defer,

omnia ipsis concedimus: et nihil horum irritum erit, ex hoc, et in omne tempus.

We give all to them, and nothing hereof shall be revoked from this time forth and for ever.

Omni ad ipso concede: et nihil de hoc irrito es, ex hoc, et in omni tempore.

Nunc ergo curate facere horum exemplum, et detur Jonathæ, et ponatur in monte sancto, in loco celebri.

Now, therefore, see that thou make a copy of these things, and let it be given to Jonathan, and set upon the holy mountain, in a conspicuous place.

Nunc ergo cura facere de hoc exemplo, et da ad Ionatha, et pone in monte sancto, in loco celebri.

Et videns Demetrius rex quod siluit terra in conspectu suo, et nihil ei resistit, dimisit totum exercitum suum, unumquemque in locum suum, excepto peregrino exercitu, quem contraxit ab insulis gentium: et inimici erant ei omnes exercitus patrum ejus.

And king Demetrius, seeing that the land was quiet before him, and nothing resisted him, sent away all his forces, every man to his own place, except the foreign army, which he had drawn together from the islands of the nations: so all the troops of his fathers hated him.

Et vidente Demetrio rege quod sile terra in conspectu suo, et nihil ad illo resiste, remitte toto exercitu suo, et unumquem in loco suo, excipe peregrino exercitu, quem contrahe ab insulas de gentes: et inimicos es ad illo omni exercitus de patres de illo.

Tryphon autem erat quidam partium Alexandri prius: et vidit quoniam omnis exercitus murmurabat contra Demetrium, et ivit ad Emalchuel Arabem, qui nutriebat Antiochum filium Alexandri:

Now there was one Tryphon who had been of Alexander's party before: who seeing that all the army murmured against Demetrius, went to Emalchuel, the Arabian, who brought up Antiochus, the son of Alexander:

Tryphone autem es uno de partes de Alexandro ante: et vide quia omni exercitu murmura contra Demetrio, et i ad Emalchuele Arabe, qui nutri Antiocho filio de Alexandro:

et assidebat ei, ut traderet eum ipsi, ut regnaret loco patris sui: et enuntiavit ei quanta fecit Demetrius, et inimicitias exercituum ejus adversus illum. Et mansit ibi diebus multis.

And he pressed him much to deliver him to him, that he might be king in his father's place: and he told him all that Demetrius had done, and how his soldiers hated him. And he remained there many days.

Et asside ad illo, ut trade illo ipso, ut regna loco de patre suo: et enuntia ad illo quanto fac Demetrio, et inimicitias de exercitus de illo contra illo. Et mane ibi dies multo.

Et misit Jonathas ad Demetrium regem, ut ejiceret eos qui in arce erant in Jerusalem, et qui in præsidiis erant: quia impugnabant Israël.

And Jonathan sent to king Demetrius, desiring that he would cast out them that were in the castle in Jerusalem, and those that were in the strong holds: because they fought against Israel.

Et mitte Ionathase ad Demetrio rege, ut eiice illos qui in arce es in Ierusalem, et qui in praesidios es: quia impugna Israële.

Et misit Demetrius ad Jonathan, dicens: Non hæc tantum faciam tibi, et genti tuæ, sed gloria illustrabo te, et gentem tuam, cum fuerit opportunum.

And Demetrius sent to Jonathan, saying: I will not only do this for thee, and for thy people, but I will greatly honour thee, and thy nation, when opportunity shall serve.

Et Demetrio mitte ad Ionathane, dicente: non hoc tanto fac ad te, et ad gente tuo, sed gloria illustra te, et gente tuo, cum es opportuno.

Nunc ergo recte feceris, si miseris in auxilium mihi viros: quia discessit omnis exercitus meus.

Now, therefore, thou shalt do well if thou send me men to help me: for all my army is gone from me.

Nunc ergo recte fac, si mitte in auxilio ad me viros: quia omni exercitu meo discede.

Et misit ei Jonathas tria millia virorum fortium Antiochiam: et venerunt ad regem, et delectatus est rex in adventu eorum.

And Jonathan sent him three thousand valiant men to Antioch: and they came to the king, and the king was very glad of their coming.

Et Ionathase ad illo mitte tre mile de viros de fortis Antiochia: et veni ad rege, et delecta es rege in adventu de illos.

Et convenerunt qui erant de civitate, centum viginti millia virorum, et volebant interficere regem.

And they that were of the city assembled themselves together, to the number of a hundred and twenty thousand men, and would have killed the king.

Et conveni qui es de civitate, cento viginti mile de viros, et vol interfice rege.

Et fugit rex in aulam: et occupaverunt qui erant de civitate, itinera civitatis, et cœperunt pugnare.

And the king fled into the palace: and they of the city kept the passages of the city, and began to fight.

Et rege fuge in aula: et occupa qui es de civitate, itineres de civitate, et incipe pugna.

Et vocavit rex Judæos in auxilium, et convenerunt omnes simul ad eum, et dispersi sunt omnes per civitatem:

And the king called the Jews to his assistance: and they came to him all at once, and they all dispersed themselves through the city.

Et rege voca Iudaeos in auxilio, et omni conveni simul ad illo, et disperge es omni per civitate:

et occiderunt in illa die centum millia hominum, et succenderunt civitatem, et ceperunt spolia multa in die illa, et liberaverunt regem.

And they slew in that day a hundred thousand men, and they set fire to the city, and got many spoils that day, and delivered the king.

Et occide in illa die cento mile de homines, et succende civitate, et cape spolios multo in die illa, et libera rege.

Et viderunt qui erant de civitate, quod obtinuissent Judæi civitatem sicut volebant: et infirmati sunt mente sua, et clamaverunt ad regem cum precibus, dicentes:

And they that were of the city saw that the Jews had got the city as they would: and they were discouraged in their mind, and cried to the king, making supplication, and saying

Et qui es de civitate vide, quod Iudaeos obtine civitate sicut vol: et infirma es mente suo, et clama ad rege cum preces, dicente:

Da nobis dextras, et cessent Judæi oppugnare nos, et civitatem.

Grant us peace, and let the Jews cease from assaulting us, and the city.

Da ad nos dextro, et Iudaeos cedsa oppugna nos, et civitate.

Et projecerunt arma sua, et fecerunt pacem, et glorificati sunt Judæi in conspectu regis, et in conspectu omnium qui erant in regno ejus, et nominati sunt in regno: et regressi sunt in Jerusalem habentes spolia multa.

And they threw down their arms, and made peace, and the Jews were glorified in the sight of the king, and in the sight of all that were in his realm, and were renowned throughout the kingdom, and returned to Jerusalem with many spoils.

Et proicie armas suo, et fac pace, et glorifica es Iudaeos in conspectu de rege, et in conspectu de omni qui es in regno de illo, et nomina es in regno: et regredior es in Ierusalem habe spolios multo.

Et sedit Demetrius rex in sede regni sui: et siluit terra in conspectu ejus.

So king Demetrius sat in the throne of his kingdom: and the land was quiet before him.

Et Demetrio rege sede in sede de regno suo: et terra sile in conspectu de illo.

Et mentitus est omnia quæcumque dixit, et abalienavit se a Jonatha, et non retribuit ei secundum beneficia quæ sibi tribuerat, et vexabat eum valde.

And he falsified all whatsoever he had said, and alienated himself from Jonathan, and did not reward him according to the benefits he had received from him, but gave him great trouble.

Et mentior es omni omni dic, et abaliena se ab Ionatha, et non retribue ad illo secundo beneficios que ad se tribue, et vexa illo valde.

Post hæc autem reversus est Tryphon, et Antiochus cum eo puer adolescens, et regnavit, et imposuit sibi diadema.

And after this Tryphon returned, and with him Antiochus, the young boy, who was made king, and put on the diadem.

Post hoc autem reverte es Tryphone, et Antiocho cum eo puero adolesce, et regna, et impone ad se diademate.

Et congregati sunt ad eum omnes exercitus, quos disperserat Demetrius, et pugnaverunt contra eum: et fugit, et terga vertit.

And there assembled unto him all the hands which Demetrius had sent away, and they fought against Demetrius who turned his back and fled.

Et congrega es ad illo omni exercitus, Demetrio disperge que, et pugna contra illo: et fuge, et tergos verte.

Et accepit Tryphon bestias, et obtinuit Antiochiam.

And Tryphon took the elephants, and made himself master of Antioch.

Et accipe Tryphone bestias, et obtine Antiochia.

Et scripsit Antiochus adolescens Jonathæ, dicens: Constituo tibi sacerdotium, et constituo te super quatuor civitates, ut sis de amicis regis.

And young Antiochus wrote to Jonathan, saying: I confirm thee in the high priesthood, and I appoint thee ruler over the four cities, and to be one of the king's friends.

Et Antiocho scribe adolesce ad Ionatha, dicente: constitue ad te sacerdotio, et constitue te super quatuore civitates, ut es de amicos de rege.

Et misit illi vasa aurea in ministerium, et dedit ei potestatem bibendi in auro, et esse in purpura, et habere fibulam auream:

And he sent him vessels of gold for his service, and he gave him leave to drink in gold, and to be clothed in purple, and to wear a golden buckle:

Et mitte ad illo vases aurea in ministerio, et da ad illo potestate bibe in auro, et es in purpura, et habere fibula aurea:

et Simonem fratrem ejus constituit ducem a terminis Tyri usque ad fines Ægypti.

And he made his brother, Simon, governor, from the borders of Tyre even to the confines of Egypt.

Et Simone fratre de illo constitue duce ab terminos de Tyro usque ad fines de Aegypto.

Et exiit Jonathas, et perambulabat trans flumen civitates: et congregatus est ad eum omnis exercitus Syriæ in auxilium, et venit Ascalonem, et occurrerunt ei honorifice de civitate.

Then Jonathan went forth, and passed through the cities beyond the river, and all the forces of Syria gathered themselves to him to help him, and he came to Ascalon, and they met him honourably out of the city.

Et Ionathase exi, et perambula trans flumine civitates: et congrega es ad illo omni exercitu de Syria in auxilio, et veni Ascalone, et occurre ad illo honorificus de civitate.

Et abiit inde Gazam: et concluserunt se qui erant Gazæ: et obsedit eam, et succendit quæ erant in circuitu civitatis, et prædatus est ea.

And he went from thence to Gaza: and they that were in Gaza shut him out: and he besieged it, and burnt all the suburbs round about, and took the spoils.

Et i ab inde Gazase: et conclude se qui es de Gazase: et obside illa, et succende que es in circuitu de civitate, et praeda es illa.

Et rogaverunt Gazenses Jonathan, et dedit illis dexteram: et accepit filios eorum obsides, et misit illos in Jerusalem: et perambulavit regionem usque Damascum.

And the men of Gaza made supplication to Jonathan, and he gave them the right hand: and he took their sons for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem: and he went through the country, as far as Damascus.

Et Ionathane roga Gazenses, et da ad illos dextera: et accipe filios de illos obsides, et mitte illos in Ierusalem: et perambula regione usque Damasco.

Et audivit Jonathas quod prævaricati sunt principes Demetrii in Cades, quæ est in Galilæa, cum exercitu multo, volentes eum removere a negotio regni:

And Jonathan heard that the generals of Demetrius were come treacherously to Cades, which is in Galilee, with a great army, purposing to remove him from the affairs of the kingdom.

Et Ionathase audi quod praevaricor es principes de Demetrio in Cades, que es in Galilaea, cum exercitu multo, vol illo remove ab negotio de regno:

et occurrit illis: fratrem autem suum Simonem reliquit intra provinciam.

And he went against them: but left his brother, Simon, in the country.

Et occurre ad illos: fratre autem suo Simone relinque intra provincia.

Et applicuit Simon ad Bethsuram, et expugnabat eam diebus multis, et conclusit eos.

And Simon encamped against Bethsura, and assaulted it many days, and shut them up.

Et Simone applica ad Bethsura, et expugna illa dies multo, et conclude illos.

Et postulaverunt ab eo dextras accipere, et dedit illis: et ejecit eos inde, et cepit civitatem, et posuit in ea præsidium.

And they desired him to make peace, and he granted it them: and he cast them out from thence, and took the city, and placed a garrison in it.

Et postula ab eo dextro accipe, et da ad illos: et eicie illos inde, et cape civitate, et pone in illa praesidio.

Et Jonathas et castra ejus applicuerunt ad aquam Genesar, et ante lucem vigilaverunt in campo Asor:

And Jonathan and his army encamped by the water of Genesar, and before it was light they were ready in the plain of Asor.

Et Ionathase et castros de illo applica ad aqua Genesare, et ante luce Asore in campo vigila:

et ecce castra alienigenarum occurrebant in campo, et tendebant ei insidias in montibus: ipse autem occurrit ex adverso.

And behold the army of the strangers met him in the plain, and they laid an ambush for him in the mountains: but he went out against them.

Et ecce castros de alienigenas occurre in campo, et tende ad illo insidias in montes: ipso autem occurre ex contra.

Insidiæ vero exsurrexerunt de locis suis, et commiserunt prælium.

And they that lay in ambush rose out of their places, and joined battle.

Insidias vero ex(s)urga de locos suo, et committe praelio.

Et fugerunt qui erant ex parte Jonathæ omnes, et nemo relictus est ex eis, nisi Mathathias filius Absolomi, et Judas filius Calphi, princeps militiæ exercitus.

And all that were on Jonathan's side fled, and none was left of them, but Mathathias, the son of Absalom, and Judas, the son of Calphi, chief captain of the army.

Et qui es ex parte de Ionatha fuge omni, et nemo relinque es ex illos, nisi Mathathiase filio Absolomio, et Iudase filio Calphio, principe de militia de exercitu.

Et scidit Jonathas vestimenta sua, et posuit terram in capite suo, et oravit.

And Jonathan rent his garments, and cast earth upon his head, and prayed.

Et Ionathase scinde vestimentos suo, et pone terra in capite suo, et ora.

Et reversus est Jonathas ad eos in prælium, et convertit eos in fugam, et pugnaverunt.

And Jonathan turned again to them to battle, and he put them to flight, and they fought.

Et reverte es Ionathase ad illos in praelio, et converte illos in fuga, et pugna.

Et viderunt qui fugiebant partis illius, et reversi sunt ad eum, et insequebantur cum eo omnes usque Cades ad castra sua, et pervenerunt usque illuc:

And they of his part that fled saw this, and they turned again to him, and they all with him pursued the enemies, even to Cades, to their own camp, and they came even thither.

Et qui fuge partes de illo vide, et reverte es ad illo, et insequor cum eo omni usque Cades ad castros suo, et perveni usque illuc:

et ceciderunt de alienigenis in die illa tria millia virorum: et reversus est Jonathas in Jerusalem.

And there fell of the aliens in that day three thousand men: and Jonathan returned to Jerusalem.

Et tre de alienigeno in die illa mile de viros cade: et reverte es Ionathase in Ierusalem.
