Liber Levitici

Locutus est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens:

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

Locuto es Domino ad Moyse, dicente:

Loquere filiis Israël, et dices ad eos: Ego Dominus Deus vester:

Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: I am the Lord your God.

Loque ad filios Israële, et dic ad illos: me Domino Deo vestro:

juxta consuetudinem terræ Ægypti, in qua habitastis, non facietis: et juxta morem regionis Chanaan, ad quam ego introducturus sum vos, non agetis, nec in legitimis eorum ambulabitis.

You shall not do according to the custom of the land of Egypt, in which you dwelt: neither shall you act according to the manner of the country of Chanaan, into which I will bring you. Nor shall you walk in their ordinances.

Juxta consuetudine de terra de Aegypto, in quo habita, non fac: et juxta more de regione Chanaane, ad quam me introdua es vos, non age, nec in legitima de illos ambula.

Facietis judicia mea, et præcepta mea servabitis, et ambulabitis in eis. Ego Dominus Deus vester.

You shall do my judgments, and shall observe my precepts, and shall walk in them. I am the Lord your God.

Fac iudicios meo, et praeceptos meo serva, et ambula in illos. Me Domino Deo vestro.

Custodite leges meas atque judicia, quæ faciens homo, vivet in eis. Ego Dominus.

Keep my laws and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them, I am the Lord.

Custodi leges meo et iudicios, que faciente homine, vive in illos. Me Domino.

Omnis homo ad proximam sanguinis sui non accedet, ut revelet turpitudinem ejus. Ego Dominus.

No man shall approach to her that is near of kin to him, to uncover her nakedness. I am the Lord.

Omni homine ad proximo de sanguine suo non accede, ut revela turpitudine de illo. Me Domino.

Turpitudinem patris tui et turpitudinem matris tuæ non discooperies: mater tua est: non revelabis turpitudinem ejus.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother: she is thy mother, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

Turpitudine de patre tuo et turpitudine de matre tuo non discooperie: matre tuo es: non revela turpitudine de illo.

Turpitudinem uxoris patris tui non discooperies: turpitudo enim patris tui est.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's wife: for it is the nakedness of thy father.

Turpitudine de uxore de patre tuo non discooperie: turpitudine nam de patre tuo es.

Turpitudinem sororis tuæ ex patre sive ex matre, quæ domi vel foris genita est, non revelabis.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy sister by father or by mother: whether born at home or abroad.

Turpitudine de sorore tuo ex patre sive ex matre, que domi vel foris gene es, non revela.

Turpitudinem filiæ filii tui vel neptis ex filia non revelabis: quia turpitudo tua est.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy son's daughter, or thy daughter's daughter: because it is thy own nakedness.

Turpitudine de filia de filio tuo vel nepto ex filia non revela: quia turpitudine tuo es.

Turpitudinem filiæ uxoris patris tui, quam peperit patri tuo, et est soror tua, non revelabis.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, whom she bore to thy father: and who is thy sister.

Turpitudine de filia de uxore de patre tuo, quam pare ad patre tuo, et es sorore tuo, non revela.

Turpitudinem sororis patris tui non discooperies: quia caro est patris tui.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: because she is the flesh of thy father.

Turpitudine de sorore de patre tuo non discooperie: quia carne es de patre tuo.

Turpitudinem sororis matris tuæ non revelabis, eo quod caro sit matris tuæ.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: because she is thy mother's flesh.

Turpitudine de sorore de matre tuo non revela, eo quod carne es de matre tuo.

Turpitudinem patrui tui non revelabis, nec accedes ad uxorem ejus, quæ tibi affinitate conjungitur.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother: neither shalt thou approach to his wife, who is joined to thee by affinity.

Turpitudine de patruo tuo non revela, nec accede ad uxore de illo, que ad te affinitate coniunge.

Turpitudinem nurus tuæ non revelabis, quia uxor filii tui est: nec discooperies ignominiam ejus.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: because she is thy son's wife, neither shalt thou discover her shame.

Turpitudine nuru tuo non revela, quia uxore de filio tuo es: nec discooperie ignominia de illo.

Turpitudinem uxoris fratris tui non revelabis: quia turpitudo fratris tui est.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: because it is the nakedness of thy brother.

Turpitudine de uxore de fratre tuo non revela: quia turpitudine de fratre tuo es.

Turpitudinem uxoris tuæ et filiæ ejus non revelabis. Filiam filii ejus, et filiam filiæ illius non sumes, ut reveles ignominiam ejus: quia caro illius sunt, et talis coitus incestus est.

Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy wife and her daughter. Thou shalt not take her son's daughter or her daughter's daughter, to discover her shame: because they are her flesh, and such copulation is incest.

Turpitudine de uxore tuo et de filia de illo non revela. Filia de filio de illo, et filia de filia de illo non sume, ut revela ignominia de illo: quia carne de illo es, et tale coitu incesto es.

Sororem uxoris tuæ in pellicatum illius non accipies, nec revelabis turpitudinem ejus adhuc illa vivente.

Thou shalt not take thy wife's sister for a harlot, to rival her: neither shalt thou discover her nakedness, while she is yet living.

Sorore de uxore tuo in pellice de illo non accipe, nec illa revela turpitudine adhuc de illo vive.

Ad mulierem quæ patitur menstrua non accedes, nec revelabis fœditatem ejus.

Thou shalt not approach to a woman having her flowers: neither shalt thou uncover her nakedness.

Ad muliere que pate menstrua non accede, nec revela foeditate de illo.

Cum uxore proximi tui non coibis, nec seminis commistione maculaberis.

Thou shalt not lie with thy neighbour's wife: nor be defiled with mingling of seed.

Cum uxore proximo tuo non coibis, nec de semine commistione macula.

De semine tuo non dabis ut consecretur idolo Moloch, nec pollues nomen Dei tui. Ego Dominus.

Thou shalt not give any of thy seed to be consecrated to the idol Moloch, nor defile the name of thy God. I am the Lord.

De semine tuo non da ut consecra ad idolo ad Moloch, nec pollue nomine de Deo tuo. Me Domino.

Cum masculo non commiscearis coitu femineo, quia abominatio est.

Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind: because it is an abomination.

Cum masculo non commisce coitu femineo, quia abominatione es.

Cum omni pecore non coibis, nec maculaberis cum eo. Mulier non succumbet jumento, nec miscebitur ei, quia scelus est.

Thou shalt not copulate with any beast: neither shalt thou be defiled with it. A woman shall not lie down to a beast, nor copulate with it: because it is a heinous crime.

Cum omni pecore non coibis, nec macula cum eo. Muliere non succumbe ad iumento, nec misce ad illo, quia scelere es.

Nec polluamini in omnibus his quibus contaminatæ sunt universæ gentes, quas ego ejiciam ante conspectum vestrum,

Defile not yourselves with any of these things with which all the nations have been defiled, which I will cast out before you,

Nec pollue in omni hoc ad que contamina es universa gentes, me eiice que ante conspectu vestro,

et quibus polluta est terra: cujus ego scelera visitabo, ut evomat habitatores suos.

And with which the land is defiled: the abominations of which I will visit, that it may vomit out its inhabitants.

Et ad que pollue es terra: de que me sceleres visita, ut evome habitatores suo.

Custodite legitima mea atque judicia, et non faciatis ex omnibus abominationibus istis, tam indigena quam colonus qui peregrinantur apud vos.

Keep ye my ordinances and my judgments: and do not any of these abominations. Neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you.

Custodi legitima meo et iudicios, et non fac ex omni abominationes isto, tam indigeno quam colono qui peregrinor apud vos.

Omnes enim execrationes istas fecerunt accolæ terræ qui fuerunt ante vos, et polluerunt eam.

For all these detestable things the inhabitants of the land have done, that were before you, and have defiled it.

Omni nam execrationes isto fac accolas de terra qui es ante vos, et pollue illa.

Cavete ergo ne et vos similiter evomat, cum paria feceritis, sicut evomuit gentem, quæ fuit ante vos.

Beware then, lest in like manner, it vomit you also out, if you do the like things: as it vomited out the nation that was before you.

Cave ergo ne et vos similiter evome, cum pari fac, sicut evome gente, que es ante vos.

Omnis anima, quæ fecerit de abominationibus his quippiam, peribit de medio populi sui.

Every soul that shall commit any of these abominations, shall perish from the midst of his people.

Omni anima, que fac de abominationes hoc quippiame, peri de medio de populo suo.

Custodite mandata mea. Nolite facere quæ fecerunt hi qui fuerunt ante vos, et ne polluamini in eis. Ego Dominus Deus vester.

Keep my commandments. Do not the things which they have done, that have been before you: and be not defiled therein. I am the Lord your God.

Custodi mandatos meo. Ne vol facere hoc qui es ante vos fac que, et ne pollue in illos. Me Domino Deo vestro.
