Epistola ad Ephesios

Filii, obedite parentibus vestris in Domino: hoc enim justum est.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is just.

Filios, obedi ad parentes vestro in Domino: hoc nam iusto es.

Honora patrem tuum, et matrem tuam, quod est mandatum primum in promissione:

Honour thy father and thy mother, which is the first commandment with a promise:

Honora patre tuo, et matre tuo, quod es mandato primo in promissione:

ut bene sit tibi, et sis longævus super terram.

That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest be long lived upon earth.

Ut bene es ad te, et es longaevo super terra.

Et vos patres, nolite ad iracundiam provocare filios vestros: sed educate illos in disciplina et correptione Domini.

And you, fathers, provoke not your children to anger: but bring them up in the discipline and correction of the Lord.

Et vos patres, ne vol ad iracundia provoca filios vestro: sed educe illos in disciplina et correptione de Domino.

Servi, obedite dominis carnalibus cum timore et tremore, in simplicitate cordis vestri, sicut Christo:

Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ.

Servis, obedi ad dominos carnali cum timore et tremore, in simplicitate de corde vestro, sicut ad Christo:

non ad oculum servientes, quasi hominibus placentes, sed ut servi Christi, facientes voluntatem Dei ex animo,

Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men: but, as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

Non ad oculo servi, quasi ad homines place, sed ut servos de Christo, fac voluntate de Deo ex animo,

cum bona voluntate servientes, sicut Domino, et non hominibus:

With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men.

Cum bono voluntate servi, sicut ad Domino, et non ad homines:

scientes quoniam unusquisque quodcumque fecerit bonum, hoc recipiet a Domino, sive servus, sive liber.

Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man shall do, the same shall he receive from the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

Sci quia et unusquis omni fac bono, hoc recipe ab Domino, sive servo, sive libro.

Et vos domini, eadem facite illis, remittentes minas: scientes quia et illorum et vester Dominus est in cælis: et personarum acceptio non est apud eum.

And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings: knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven. And there is no respect of persons with him.

Et vos dominos, fac idem ad illos, remitte minas: sci quia et de illos et vestro Domino es in caelos: et de personas acceptione non es apud illo.

De cetero, fratres, confortamini in Domino, et in potentia virtutis ejus.

Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power.

De cetero, fratres, conforta in Domino, et in potentia de virtute de illo.

Induite vos armaturam Dei, ut possitis stare adversus insidias diaboli:

Put you on the armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the deceits of the devil.

Indue vos armatura de Deo, ut pote sta contra insidias de diabolo:

quoniam non est nobis colluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem, sed adversus principes, et potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, contra spiritualia nequitiæ, in cælestibus.

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

Quia non colluctatione ad nos es contra carne et sanguine, sed contra principes, et potestates, contra mundo rectores de tenebras hoc, contra spirituali de nequitias, in caelesti.

Propterea accipite armaturam Dei, ut possitis resistere in die malo, et in omnibus perfecti stare.

Therefore, take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day and to stand in all things perfect.

Propter hoc accipe armatura de Deo, ut pote resiste in die malo, et in omni perfecto sta.

State ergo succincti lumbos vestros in veritate, et induti loricam justitiæ,

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth and having on the breastplate of justice:

Sta ergo succinge lumbos vestro in veritate, et indue lorica de iustitia,

et calceati pedes in præparatione Evangelii pacis,

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

Et calcea pedes in praeparatione de Evangelio de pace,

in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei, in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi ignea extinguere:

In all things taking the shield of faith, wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the most wicked one.

In omni sume scuto de fide, in quo pote omni telos nequissimo igneo extingue:

et galeam salutis assumite, et gladium spiritus (quod est verbum Dei),

And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).

Et galea de salute assume, et gladio de spiritu (quod es verbo de Deo),

per omnem orationem et obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in spiritu: et in ipso vigilantes in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus sanctis:

By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit: and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints:

Per omni oratione et obsecratione ora omni tempore in spiritu: et in ipso vigila in omni instantia et obsecratione pro omni sancto:

et pro me, ut detur mihi sermo in apertione oris mei cum fiducia, notum facere mysterium Evangelii:

And for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Et pro me, ut sermone ad me da in apertione de ore meo cum fiducia, noto facere mysterio de Evangelio:

pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ita ut in ipso audeam, prout oportet me loqui.

For which I am an ambassador in a chain: so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.

Pro quo legatione fungor in catena, ita ut in ipso aude, prout debe me loque.

Ut autem et vos sciatis quæ circa me sunt, quid agam, omnia vobis nota faciet Tychicus, carissimus frater, et fidelis minister in Domino:

But that you also may know the things that concern me and what I am doing, Tychicus, my dearest brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things:

Ut autem et vos sci que circa me es, quid age, omni ad vos noto i fac Tychico, carissimo fratre, et fideli ministro in Domino:

quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum, ut cognoscatis quæ circa nos sunt, et consoletur corda vestra.

Whom I have sent to you for this same purpose: that you may know the things concerning us, and that he may comfort your hearts.

Quem mitte ad vos in hoc ipso, ut cognosce que circa nos es, et consola cordes vestro.

Pax fratribus, et caritas cum fide a Deo Patre et Domino Jesu Christo.

Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pace ad fratres, et caritate cum fide ab Deo Patre et Domino Iesu Christo.

Gratia cum omnibus qui diligunt Dominum nostrum Jesum Christum in incorruptione. Amen.

Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen.

Gratia cum omni qui dilige Domino nostro Iesu Christo in incorruptione. Amen.
