Prophetia Baruch

Hic liber mandatorum Dei, et lex quæ est in æternum: omnes qui tenent eam pervenient ad vitam: qui autem dereliquerunt eam, in mortem.

This is the book of the commandments of God, and the law, that is for ever: all they that keep it, shall come to life: but they that have forsaken it, to death.

Hoc libro de mandatos de Deo, et lege que es in aeterno: omni qui tene illa perveni ad vita: qui autem derelinque illa, in morte.

Convertere, Jacob, et apprehende eam: ambula per viam ad splendorem ejus contra lumen ejus.

Return, O Jacob, and take hold of it, walk in the way by its brightness, in the presence of the light thereof.

Converte, Iacobo, et apprehende illa: ambula per via ad splendore de illo contra lumine de illo.

Ne tradas alteri gloriam tuam, et dignitatem tuam genti alienæ.

Give not thy honour to another, nor thy dignity to a strange nation.

Ne trade ad altero gloria tuo, et dignitate tuo ad gente aliena.

Beati sumus, Israël, quia quæ Deo placent manifesta sunt nobis.

We are happy, O Israel: because the things that are pleasing to God, are made known to us.

Beato es, Israële, quia que ad Deo place manifesto es ad nos.

Animæquior esto, populus Dei, memorabilis Israël:

Be of good comfort, O people of God, the memorial of Israel:

Animaequo es, populo de Deo, memorabile Israële:

venundati estis gentibus non in perditionem: sed propter quod in ira ad iracundiam provocastis Deum, traditi estis adversariis.

You have been sold to the Gentiles, not for your destruction: but because you provoked God to wrath, you are delivered to your adversaries.

Vende es ad gentes non in perditione: sed propter quod in ira ad iracundia provoca Deo, trade es adversario.

Exacerbastis enim eum qui fecit vos, Deum æternum, immolantes dæmoniis, et non Deo.

For you have provoked him who made you, the eternal God, offering sacrifice to devils, and not to God.

Exacerba nam illo qui fac vos, Deo aeterno, immola ad daemonios, et non ad Deo.

Obliti enim estis Deum qui nutrivit vos, et contristastis nutricem vestram Jerusalem.

For you have forgotten God, who brought you up, and you have grieved Jerusalem that nursed you.

Obliviscor nam es Deo qui nutri vos, et contrista nutrice vestro Ierusalem.

Vidit enim iracundiam a Deo venientem vobis, et dixit: Audite, confines Sion: adduxit enim mihi Deus luctum magnum.

For she saw the wrath of God coming upon you, and she said: Give ear, all you that dwell near Sion, for God hath brought upon me great mourning:

Deo nam vide ab Deo veni ad vos, et dic: audi, confes Sione: adduce nam ad me iracundia luctu magna.

Vidi enim captivitatem populi mei, filiorum meorum et filiarum, quam superduxit illis Æternus.

For I have seen the captivity of my people, of my sons, and my daughters, which the Eternal hath brought upon them.

Vide nam captivitate de populo meo, de filios meo et de filias, Aeterno superduce ad illos quam.

Nutrivi enim illos cum jucunditate; dimisi autem illos cum fletu et luctu.

For I nourished them with joy: but I sent them away with weeping and mourning.

Nutri nam illos cum iucunditate; dimitte autem illos cum fletu et luctu.

Nemo gaudeat super me viduam et desolatam: a multis derelicta sum propter peccata filiorum meorum, quia declinaverunt a lege Dei.

Let no man rejoice over me, a widow, and desolate: I am forsaken of many for the sins of my children, because they departed from the law of God.

Nemo gaude super me vidua et desola: ab multo derelingua es propter peccatos de filios meo, quia declina ab lege de Deo.

Justitias autem ipsius nescierunt, nec ambulaverunt per vias mandatorum Dei, neque per semitas veritatis ejus cum justitia ingressi sunt.

And they have not known his justices, nor walked by the ways of God's commandments, neither have they entered by the paths of his truth and justice.

Iustitias autem de ipso ne sci, nec ambula per vias de mandatos de Deo, neque per semitas de veritate de illo cum iustitia ingredior es.

Veniant confines Sion, et memorentur captivitatem filiorum et filiarum mearum, quam superduxit illis Æternus.

Let them that dwell about Sion come, and remember the captivity of my sons and daughters, which the Eternal hath brought upon them.

Confes Sione veni, et memora captivitate de filios et de filias meo, Aeterno superduce ad illos quam.

Adduxit enim super illos gentem de longinquo, gentem improbam, et alterius linguæ,

For he hath brought a nation upon them from afar, a wicked nation, and of a strange tongue:

Adduce nam super illos gente de longinqua, gente improbo, et de altero de lingua,

qui non sunt reveriti senem, neque puerorum miserti sunt, et abduxerunt dilectos viduæ, et a filiis unicam desolaverunt.

Who have neither reverenced the ancient, nor pitied children, and have carried away the beloved of the widow, and have left me all alone without children.

Qui non es revereor sene, neque de pueros misereor es, et abduce dilige viduas, et ab filios unico desola.

Ego autem, quid possum adjuvare vos?

But as for me, what help can I give you?

Me autem, quid pote adiuva vos?

qui enim adduxit super vos mala, ipse vos eripiet de manibus inimicorum vestrorum.

But he that hath brought the evils upon you, he will deliver you out of the hands of your enemies.

Qui nam adduce super vos malo, ipso eripe vos de manus de inimicos vestro.

Ambulate, filii, ambulate: ego enim derelicta sum sola.

Go your way, my children, go your way: for I am left alone.

Ambula, filios, ambula: me nam derelingua es solo.

Exui me stola pacis, indui autem me sacco obsecrationis, et clamabo ad Altissimum in diebus meis.

I have put off the robe of peace, and have put upon me the sackcloth of supplication, and I will cry to the most High in my days.

Exue me stola de pace, indue autem me sacco de obsecratione, et clama ad Altissimo in dies meo.

Animæquiores estote, filii; clamate ad Dominum, et eripiet vos de manu principum inimicorum.

Be of good comfort, my children, cry to the Lord, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the princes your enemies.

Animaequo es, filios; clama ad Domino, et eripe vos de manu de principes de inimicos.

Ego enim speravi in æternum salutem vestram, et venit mihi gaudium a Sancto, super misericordia quæ veniet vobis ab æterno salutari nostro.

For my hope is in the Eternal that he will save you: and joy is come upon me from the Holy One, because of the mercy which shall come to you from our everlasting Saviour.

Me nam spera in aeterno salute vestro, et gaudio ad me veni ab Sancto, super misericordia que veni ad vos ab aeterno saluta nostro.

Emisi enim vos cum luctu et ploratu: reducet autem vos mihi Dominus cum gaudio et jucunditate in sempiternum.

For I sent you forth with mourning and weeping: but the Lord will bring you back to me with joy and gladness for ever.

Emitte nam vos cum luctu et ploratu: Domino autem reduce ad me vos cum gaudio et iucunditate in sempiterno.

Sicut enim viderunt vicinæ Sion captivitatem vestram a Deo, sic videbunt et in celeritate salutem vestram a Deo, quæ superveniet vobis cum honore magno et splendore æterno.

For as the neighbours of Sion have now seen your captivity from God: so shall they also shortly see your salvation from God, which shall come upon you with great honour, and everlasting glory.

Sicut nam vicinos Sione vide captivitate vestro ab Deo, sic vide et in celeritate salute vestro ab Deo, que superveni ad vos cum honore magna et splendore aeterno.

Filii, patienter sustinete iram quæ supervenit vobis: persecutus est enim te inimicus tuus: sed cito videbis perditionem ipsius, et super cervices ipsius ascendes.

My children, suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you: for thy enemy hath persecuted thee, but thou shalt quickly see his destruction: and thou shalt get up upon his neck.

Filios, patienter sustine ira que superveni ad vos: perseque es nam te inimico tuo: sed cito vide perditione de ipso, et super cervices de ipso ascende.

Delicati mei ambulaverunt vias asperas: ducti sunt enim ut grex direptus ab inimicis.

My delicate ones have walked rough ways, for they were taken away as a flock made a prey by the enemies.

Delicata meo ambula vias aspero: duc es nam ut grege dic ab inimicos.

Animæquiores estote, filii, et proclamate ad Dominum: erit enim memoria vestra ab eo qui duxit vos.

Be of good comfort, my children, and cry to the Lord: for you shall be remembered by him that hath led you away.

Animaequo es, filios, et proclama ad Domino: es nam memoria vestro ab eo qui duc vos.

Sicut enim fuit sensus vester ut erraretis a Deo, decies tantum iterum convertentes requiretis eum:

For as it was your mind to go astray from God; so when you return again you shall seek him ten times as much.

Sicut nam sensu vestro es ut erra ab Deo, decies tanto iterum converte require illo:

qui enim induxit vobis mala, ipse rursum adducet vobis sempiternam jucunditatem cum salute vestra.

For he that hath brought evils upon you, shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation.

Qui nam induce ad vos malo, ipso iterum adduce ad vos sempiterno iucunditate cum salute vestro.

Animæquior esto, Jerusalem: exhortatur enim te, qui te nominavit.

Be of good heart, O Jerusalem: for he exhorteth thee, that named thee.

Animaequo es, Ierusalem: exhorta nam te, qui nomina te.

Nocentes peribunt, qui te vexaverunt: et qui gratulati sunt in tua ruina, punientur.

The wicked that have afflicted thee, shall perish: and they that have rejoiced at thy ruin, shall be punished.

Nocente peri, qui vexa te: et qui gratulor es in tuo ruina, punie.

Civitates quibus servierunt filii tui, punientur, et quæ accepit filios tuos.

The cities which thy children have served, shall be punished: and she that received thy sons.

Civitates ad que filios tuo servi, punie, et que accipe filios tuo.

Sicut enim gavisa est in tua ruina, et lætata est in casu tuo, sic contristabitur in sua desolatione,

For as she rejoiced at thy ruin, and was glad of thy fall: so shall she be grieved for her own desolation.

Sicut nam gaude es in tuo ruina, et laetor es in casu tuo, sic contrista in suo desolatione,

et amputabitur exsultatio multitudinis ejus, et gaudimonium ejus erit in luctum.

And the joy of her multitude shall be cut off: and her gladness shall be turned to mourning.

Et exsultatione de multitudine de illo amputa, et gaudimonio de illo es in luctu.

Ignis enim superveniet ei ab Æterno in longiturnis diebus, et habitabitur a dæmoniis in multitudine temporis.

For fire shall come upon her from the Eternal, long to endure, and she shall be inhabited by devils for a great time.

Igni nam superveni ad illo ab Aeterno in longiture dies, et habita ab daemonios in multitudine de tempore.

Circumspice, Jerusalem, ad orientem, et vide jucunditatem a Deo tibi venientem.

Look about thee, O Jerusalem, towards the east, and behold the joy that cometh to thee from God.

Circumspice, Ierusalem, ad ori, et vide iucunditate ab Deo ad te veni.

Ecce enim veniunt filii tui, quos dimisisti dispersos: veniunt collecti ab oriente usque ad occidentem, in verbo Sancti, gaudentes in honorem Dei.

For behold thy children come, whom thou sentest away scattered, they come gathered together from the east even to the west, at the word of the Holy One rejoicing for the honour of God.

Ecce nam veni filios tuo, que dimitte disperge: veni collige ab oriente usque ad occidente, in verbo Sancto, gaude in honore de Deo.
